A Legacy of Giving: Breaking Barriers, Building Futures

“Treat others the way you would want to be treated.” This is the advice of Dave and Kris Downs, creators of the Jacobsen Downs Endeavor Scholarship.
Growing up and working as a teacher in the Black Hills, Kris Downs saw just how many students struggled to afford education, and how a small amount of support could change everything. The goal of their scholarship is to encourage students and lighten that burden.
“We all want to make this world a better place. But we believe we can make a difference where we are,” said Kris Downs.
“We can do some real good right here in South Dakota by helping some wonderful young people further their education,” added Dave Downs.
The Downs know that anything worthwhile requires effort, and that kindness matters deeply. They hope to inspire a spirit of paying it forward in future generations. Dave and Kris believe that whatever path these young people take, they will continue the legacy of learning, kindness and service, helping make South Dakota an even better place to call home.
