South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) recently awarded a $6,987.50 South Dakota Fund grant to Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity. Funding will assist with purchasing a new van for their handyman services, Habitat Handyman.

"Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity has been able to dramatically increase the number of families served through our Habitat Handyman service as a direct result of the support we received from the South Dakota Community Foundation,” said David Riedlinger, Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity Construction Superintendent. “Their grant through the South Dakota Fund made it possible to stretch our funds, enabling us to purchase a work van which gives us the flexibility to reach more families throughout our region.”

Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity works to provide affordable homeownership which includes new homes and home preservation projects to keep people in their homes. To further advance the mission and assist more people, Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity started a new service, Habitat Handyman. The Habitat Handyman service will provide homeowners with small home repairs and is open to all income levels. The van will travel to job sites carrying all the necessary people, tools, and materials required to complete each job. Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity will assist individuals who are not able to afford these small home repairs with an interest free loan.

“Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity has found a creative way to continue their great work by providing a home repair service,” said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “We are proud to support them in this new service.”
