Active Generations Awarded $10,000 for Dementia Enrichment
April 28, 2026 // South Dakota Fund Grants
Active Generations has been awarded a $10,000 South Dakota Fund grant from South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF). The grant will support enrichment for adults living with Alzheimer's, dementia and other cognitive conditions.
“Expanding our Adult Day Services and ensuring equitable access to high-quality dementia care are among our highest organizational priorities,” said Betsy Schuster, President and CEO of Active Generations. “We view this project as essential to our mission of inspiring active adult lifestyles and a critical investment in the well-being of the older adults and families we serve.”
Active Generations will use funding from this grant to acquire interactive projection systems for three of its Sioux Falls area Adult Day Services sites. The Tovertafel projection systems utilize light and motion to increase cognitive stimulation and well-being. This investment will expand access to dementia care tools for individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford or access them. Evidence shows improvements in cognition, physical activity, social interaction and emotional well-being for those who interact with this technology.
“These projection systems support quality of life and can make a meaningful difference for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, providing both connection and joy,” said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “We are pleased to support Active Generations as they make these resources more readily available.”
SDCF’s South Dakota Fund grants approximately $1 million each year to nonprofit organizations across the state. The grants are focused in nine areas and serve to build stronger families and communities.
SDCF is a public non-profit organization established in 1987. SDCF administers over 1,300 funds benefiting hundreds of charitable organizations across the state. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the foundation distributed over $40 million in grants in 2025. To learn more, visit https://sdcommunityfoundation.org/giving or call 800.888.1842.
