South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) recently awarded a $10,000 South Dakota Fund grant to Friends of SD Public Broadcasting. Funding will aid in supporting their "Explore South Dakota Fund", dedicated to the creation of SDPB's award-winning television documentaries and on-the-ground programming about local life in South Dakota.

“We are fortunate to have a partner like the South Dakota Community Foundation, who shares a vision to build community across South Dakota. This gift will help SDPB create local produced documentaries that will feature the best stories about the place we call home,” Ryan Howlett, Friends of South Dakota Public Broadcasting.

Friends of South Dakota Public Broadcasting support the mission of South Dakota Public Broadcasting (SDPB) to use the power of public media to connect South Dakotans with education, information, culture, and the arts. The Friends do so through advocacy, leadership, and fundraising responsive to the needs of SDPB and all South Dakotans. The "Explore South Dakota Fund" allows SDPB to create compelling documentaries, podcasts, and journalism, showcasing longform storytelling about the challenges we face, our histories, and the people and places we call home.

"This partnership with Friends of South Dakota Public Broadcasting will serve as a vital conduit, connecting South Dakotans through the power of storytelling. Together, we aim to bridge communities, celebrate diversity, and foster understanding, enriching the fabric of our shared narratives,” says Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer.

SDCF is a public non-profit organization established in 1987. SDCF, with offices in Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Aberdeen administers 1,200 funds benefiting hundreds of charitable organizations annually. The Foundation distributed nearly $31 million in grants in 2023 which made a tremendous difference in communities statewide. This would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors.
