South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) recently awarded a $10,000 South Dakota Fund grant to Building Our Families. Funding will support the Building Opportunities with Optimal Supports and Teaching (BOOST) program.

“Thank you SDCF for awarding Building Our Families with a $10,000 grant for our BOOST Program. We are incredibly grateful for this support. These funds will directly impact families in crisis by helping us provide emergency housing, supervised visitation, and trauma-informed case management – ensuring more children stay safely connected to their families.”

Founded in 2018, Building Our Families (BOF) mission is to be an advocate for and promote the community through support and education of families to meet their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs. Working together with community members and professionals, BOF’s Resilience Team adopted BOOST as a prevention program. On January 1, 2025, BOOST was officially launched. This program is designed to help children and families thrive within their homes and communities by providing opportunities that encourage self-sufficiency in those families and assist with the disadvantaged with a goal of intervening when concerns arise, rather than waiting until it is too late and the child is removed from the home and placed in the foster care system.

“We are proud to partner with Building Our Families and the BOOST Program," says Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “The BOOST Program is providing families and children the tools needed to stay together and lessening the burden of the foster care system.”
