Georgia Henrichsen (1918-2007) was a dedicated educator who served Jerauld and Buffalo Counties for many years. She earned a four-year degree from Northern State College and a master’s degree from South Dakota State University. Upon her retirement in 1983, she was honored for 43 years of service as a teacher and administrator. Throughout her career, she taught in several one-room rural schools and in classrooms in Lane, Gann Valley, Paynesville (MN), and Wessington Springs. Known as "Mrs. Henrichsen," she also served as the Jerauld County Superintendent of Schools and spent the final nine years of her career as the principal of Wessington Springs Elementary. Education was of utmost importance to Georgia; hard work, faith, and a love of learning were the cornerstones of her life. She would be proud to know that this scholarship, established through the South Dakota Community Foundation, will help WSHS students pursue higher education in a field of their choice.
