Steve Gohn Honored with South Dakota AFP Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award

November 5, 2025 // Community Savings Account

Steve Gohn of Huron, S.D. has been named 2025 South Dakota Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser for his leadership, generosity and lasting impact on his community.

Gohn has been a leader with the Huron Community Foundation (HCF) since its inception with South Dakota Community Foundation in 2004 and currently serves as chairperson. For more than 20 years, he has inspired others to give back, helping to grow HCF and its family funds to more than $9 million and granting over $1.7 million to local nonprofits.

“The single biggest reason I love Huron as a community is the people,” said Gohn. “This town makes it easy for people to get involved and make a difference.”

Through his work as a financial advisor and community leader, Steve has connected donors to meaningful causes, strengthened local nonprofits and encouraged the next generation to get involved in philanthropy. Steve serves as President of Huron Parks & Recreation Department and Forward Huron and is a board member of Greater Huron Development Corporation.

“If we don’t give back, who will?” said Gohn. “I want to be part of making my community a better place to live.”

Kris and Steve Gohn presented with SDCF's Hometown Hero award

In addition to receiving the AFP Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year Award, Steve and his wife, Kris, received SDCF's Hometown Hero award, honoring donors who make transformational contributions to strengthen their home communities. The Gohns have made a significant contribution to establish the Angels of Adoption Hope and Healing Fund, an endowed fund supporting mothers considering adoption. This is a deeply personal and profoundly meaningful way Steve and Kris are making a lasting difference.

Gohn supports local initiatives through his firm, Avail Wealth Management. He and his wife, Kris, have been married for 34 years and are parents to four children. SDCF is honored to recognize Steve’s extraordinary service and his enduring dedication to the people of Huron.
