Program for Math-Loving Youth Receives Grant to Expand
February 10, 2026 // Grants, South Dakota Fund Grants
A unique program is generating excitement about math among Aberdeen-area elementary students. A $4,500 South Dakota Fund grant from South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) will help to spread that excitement.
“We are pleased to join with local donors who already support Number Ninjas Aberdeen Area,” said SDCF’s Senior Program Officer Ginger Neimann. “The program gives students who excel in math a place to grow, compete and thrive beyond the classroom. With the demonstrated community commitment, it’s a perfect match with our South Dakota Fund.”
Number Ninjas Aberdeen Area is an after-school math enrichment program for 3rd-5th graders. It blends fun, competition and advanced learning to challenge students who excel in math. Through the program, students build confidence, sharpen their skills and discover the joy of competition.
The program was launched in the 2024-25 school year at OM Tiffany Elementary School, with 31 students participating. This year, nine additional area schools started programs.
“This generous grant guarantees all nine schools will receive startup funding to build on the momentum of this new STEM opportunity for kids,” said Adam Buckhouse, who oversees the Number Ninjas Aberdeen Area program. The Aberdeen Area Community Foundation serves as Number Ninjas’ fiscal sponsor.
SDCF’s South Dakota Fund makes grants to nonprofits across the state in support of culture, economic development, education, financial literacy, health and human services. Beginning in 2026, the fund is focusing on three new initiatives: child wellbeing, housing and workforce development.
