South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) has awarded a $20,000 South Dakota Fund grant to LifeQuest Foundation to support the development of microhomes for adults with disabilities in the Mitchell area.

This first-of-its-kind housing project in South Dakota will provide not only affordable, accessible homes, but also a greater sense of independence and belonging for residents. The innovative microhomes will offer new opportunities for adults with disabilities to enjoy every day experiences that many take for granted.

“Support from the South Dakota Fund will help LifeQuest provide not just cost-efficient microhomes to adults with disabilities from the Mitchell area, but also new experiences for the people who live there,” said Brian Loken, Development Director at Life Quest Foundation. “The joy of choosing their own holiday decorations or the comfort of knowing the knock on the door is just for them are powerful, and for some, brand new reminders that they are living a more fulfilled life. Generosity from the South Dakota Fund and others will help provide a foundation for this first-of-its-kind housing project in the State.”

The LifeQuest Foundation’s housing initiative will support individuals in gaining autonomy, safety, and a deeper sense of community within a supportive environment that fosters personal growth.

“LifeQuest Foundation is creating a meaningful path toward greater independence and dignity for adults with disabilities,” said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “We’re honored to support a project that prioritizes both innovation and humanity in such a powerful way.”
