Homes to Grow Into

GROW SD is expanding access to sustainable homeownership and strengthening rural communities with a $100,000 South Dakota Fund grant from South Dakota Community Foundation. This funding will grow the organization’s Down Payment Assistance program, which will provide 20 $5,000 zero-interest deferred loans to income-qualified buyers in South Dakota. 

The loans will support down payment and closing-cost assistance for the purchase or construction of homes. This will help households that can afford monthly mortgage payments but lack the upfront funds for closing costs. 

“This grant will make a meaningful difference for individuals and families working toward homeownership. For many income-qualified buyers, having enough funds available for a down payment is one of the biggest obstacles to purchasing a home,” said Kristin Hofland, GROW SD Home Improvement Director and Funds Development Officer. “With this support, GROW South Dakota will be able to provide down payment assistance to 20 homebuyers, helping them turn the goal of owning a home into a reality and build long-term financial stability through homeownership.”

GROW SD delivers a comprehensive range of housing, community and economic development programs designed to support low- and moderate-income households across all 66 counties in South Dakota. By building on this successful model, they will be able to deliver immediate impact to individuals, families and communities statewide.
