South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) recently awarded a $2,904 South Dakota Fund grant to the University of Sioux Falls (USF). Funding will support students in Sioux Falls, and those South Dakota students taking online classes with the opportunity to take part in a Financial Literacy Education Program.

“The South Dakota Community Foundation Grant is going to make a huge lasting impact on the financial literacy and education of University of Sioux Falls students studying on campus in Sioux Falls, and online throughout South Dakota,” said Andrew Porteous, Director of Student Life and Housing, USF.

USF currently offers students Financial Aid, Paid Employment on Campus, and a Student Hardship Fund, however, there is currently no Financial Literacy or Educational Programs associated with these. This program is designed to train staff members to be able to instruct students about Financial Literacy as well as provide student wide programming throughout the year. This programming will target students from lower socio-economic backgrounds and first-generation students who are the first in their family to navigate the financial waters of a college education.

“College is often the first-time students are responsible for their own finances. This program will offer the necessary skills to make sound decisions and manage their money effectively,” said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer.
