The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) recently awarded a $2,500 South Dakota Fund grant to Eastern Star Home of South Dakota Inc. Funding will support updating the sound system and overhead paging system to make announcements and music played sound pleasant versus institutionalized.

“We are so appreciative of the South Dakota Community Foundation Grant we received to upgrade our sound system. The response from our residents, staff and our visitors has been amazing. The smiles and tapping toes say it all. It gives us all a happy heart,” says Lisa Haigh, Eastern Star Home of South Dakota Inc., Activity Director.

The Eastern Star Home of South Dakota Inc. was founded by members of the South Dakota Order of the Eastern Star to provide care for those members who could no longer care for themselves. It is with this belief that they saw a need to help others in the Redfield community and began providing care regardless of membership status. Since 1934, the Eastern Star Home of South Dakota, Inc. has kept their mission of caring for others and has expanded to include nursing home care, assisted living and senior living care.

“This project began when residents voiced a need for a “more pleasant sounding” overhead and paging system,” says Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “We are incredibly pleased to champion the resident’s request while supporting Eastern Star Home’s goal of improving quality of life for each resident.”

SDCF is a public non-profit organization established in 1987. SDCF, with offices in Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Aberdeen administers 1,200 funds benefiting hundreds of charitable organizations annually. The Foundation distributed nearly $31 million in grants in 2023 which made a tremendous difference in communities statewide. This would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors.
