$10,000 Awarded to Beresford Parks, Recreations & Community Education Inc.

South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) recently awarded Beresford PRCE a $10,000 South Dakota Fund grant. Funds will provide twice weekly English classes as a Second Language (ESL) to adults in the community whose first language is not English. Additionally, daycare services will also be available for children of those adults taking part in the program to make attendance easier.
Dr. Scott Klungseth, Director at Beresford PRCE, says “The funding will help us to better serve the growing migrant and non-English speaking families that are joining our community.”
For over 30 years, the mission of Beresford PRCE has been to promote and support educational, cultural and leisure time activities and programs for citizens of all ages in the community. The ESL classes will add more inclusiveness to those in the community while assisting their citizens in gaining the English language skills. Based on a pilot program it became evident that there is a desperate need for community English classes. This project involves collaboration with the Beresford School District and the city of Beresford.
“These classes will bolster confidence, ameliorate the health and safety of those active in the class while broadening minds, developing emotional skills and taking steps forward in enhancing their way of life,” says Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer.
