Treasuring the Badlands

November 9, 2021 // South Dakota Fund Grants

With financial support from the South Dakota Community Foundation, we can continue our efforts to promote conservation, education, and environmental stewardship of Badlands National Park throughout the state of South Dakota.

Randy Seiler, Badlands National Park Conservancy Representative

The Badlands National Park Conservancy (BNPC) was established in 2018 for the purpose of supporting the Parks in the Badlands of South Dakota including Badlands National Park (BNP) and the Minute Man Missile Historic Park (MMHP). The South Dakota Community Foundation awarded the Badlands National Park Conservancy with a $10,000 South Dakota Fund grant to help support their efforts.

Badlands National Park is going through the process of becoming an International Dark Sky certified dark sky preserve. When this process is complete, Badlands National Park will be the first U.S. national park with this accreditation.

“The Badlands National Park Conservancy, in partnership with the National Park Service, is dedicated to preserving the parks in the Badlands of South Dakota, stated Randy Seiler, BNPC. “National Park Service budget limitations make it difficult to adequately protect and enhance these valued resources. With financial support from the South Dakota Community Foundation, we can continue our efforts to promote conservation, education, and environmental stewardship of Badlands National Park throughout the state of South Dakota.”

“We are pleased to partner with the Badlands National Park Conservancy to bolster their projects”, said Ginger Niemann, Senior Program Officer, SDCF. “The Badlands are a national treasure and need all our support to continue to be a destination for both visitors and locals.”
