Support for Those That Supported Us

November 15, 2021 // South Dakota Fund Grants

We want to ensure South Dakota’s place as the number one destination in America for veterans, active military members, their families, employers and the overall community.

Brian Phelps, Executive Director, South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance, Inc.

The South Dakota Military Alliance, Inc. was founded in October 2018 as a vision for creating a “first of its kind” collaborative environment for veterans, active military members and the civilian community. In May 2019, the “Friends of the Alliance” was formed and provided successful initial fundraising efforts. The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) provided a $20,000 South Dakota Fund grant to the South Dakota Military Alliance, Inc. to provide partial support for securing a consultant that will coordinate strategic planning for future operations, accountability and for our state’s first comprehensive military museum.

“Our strategic planning will prepare the Alliance for future operations and accountability”, declared Brian Phelps, Executive Director, South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance, Inc. “We want to ensure South Dakota’s place as the number one destination in America for veterans, active military members, their families, employers and the overall community. We extend our thanks to the South Dakota Community Foundation for supporting these efforts.”

The Alliance has purchased the former Badlands Pawn buildings in Sioux Falls. The location of the Alliance, just north of the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, provides high-visibility and easy-access from downtown Sioux Falls, the Sioux Falls Airport and Interstates I-29 and I-90. The uniqueness of the facility and corporate structure has afforded the Alliance the opportunity to create a world-class environment for military and veteran support organizations and services, while also inviting, entertaining, and inspiring the general public.

“We are pleased to partner with the South Dakota Military Alliance, Inc. to support their efforts for future planning”, said Ginger Niemann, Senior Program Officer, SDCF. “We are proud to support our nation’s veterans and military members.”
