Serving Our State's Youngest… | South Dakota Community Foundation
SDCF staff members, Beth Massa and Ginger Niemann, present a South Dakota Fund grant award to Anne Rogers-Popejoy and Northern Hills Alliance staff and clientele.

As we continue to safely serve our youngest community members, contributions of this level genuinely keep our doors open during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anne Rogers-Popejoy, Administrator, Northern Hills Alliance for Children

Providing affordable, secure, and healthy childcare and educational services to families with young children in the Northern Black Hills is the mission of the Northern Hills Alliance for Children (NHAFC). Northern Hills Alliance for Children is the only registered, licensed childcare facility in Lead-Deadwood and the only center that accepts childcare assistance and offers free and reduced-price meals. This nonprofit closed due to COVID-19 from March 15 through June 10, 2020. They are now reopened.

NHAFC worked with Monument Health Lead-Deadwood and the South Dakota Department of Social Services to create a COVID-19 operating plan that meets or exceeds all recommendations for childcare centers set forth by the CDC.

The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) was pleased to provide a $10,000 South Dakota Fund grant to the Alliance. This grant will support the costs associated with their new operating plan for safely caring for children.

“Northern Hills Alliance for Children is grateful for the support of the South Dakota Community Foundation”, said Anne Rogers-Popejoy, Administrator, Northern Hills Alliance for Children. “As we continue to safely serve our youngest community members, contributions of this level genuinely keep our doors open during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“The South Dakota Community Foundation is proud to offer support for this worthwhile project”, said Ginger Niemann, Senior Program Officer, SDCF. “Childcare is vital to ensuring that our economy thrives. Parents cannot go back to work without it.”
