We set out on the journey of making Papa’s Park a reality with three goals in mind: 1) To improve access to outdoor recreation facilities for all residents and visitors of Parkston, 2) To provide a safe area for children and adults to play and exercise, and 3) To provide a public park in an area of Parkston which is experiencing significant growth, particularly with young families, to reduce the concern of children traveling a longer distance to a park to play,” said Ryan J. Murtha, PE, McLaury Engineering, Inc, Papa’s Park Project Coordinator and City Engineer for the City of Parkston. “With this very generous grant from the South Dakota Community Foundation, we can turn these goals into commitments to the citizens of our community and bring Papa’s Park to life
The city of Parkston is experiencing growth including several young adults that grew up there as children that are now choosing to move back to town to raise their families. Papa’s Park is in a section of the community that does not have easy access to other public spaces in town.
Papa’s Park has been designed to include amenities for all ages,” stated Ginger Niemann, Senior Program Officer, SDCF. “This park will encourage an active, healthy lifestyle for future generations of the Parkston community. The SDCF is proud to play a small role in its development
