Pat Gallagher presents Christen Larson Heritage Circle award to the late Loren Ammann's sister, Beverly Schultz

South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) Community Development Coordinator Pat Gallagher recently had the honor of recognizing the late Loren Ammann for his generous gift to the Wilmot community by presenting Beverly Schultz, Mr. Ammann’s sister, with the Christen Larson Heritage Circle Award.

I was proud of my brother for his generosity to our hometown and for the good that has come from his gift. I’m also pleased that the SDCF has recognized him with this nice honor.

"Through his estate, Mr. Ammann established the Loren J. Ammann Foundation in 2013, a community savings account that will benefit local nonprofits in the Wilmot area for years to come, said Gallagher. "Since that time, the fund has been able to grant over $250,300 to many charitable groups and nonprofits locally. His generosity will make an impact on this community perpetually."

The Christen-Larson Heritage Circle honors two very important families in the evolution and continued growth of the SDCF. Paul and the late Muffy Christen championed growth and sustainability in the communities in which they owned and operated banks. Dale Larson and his late wife, Pat have quietly supported some of South Dakota’s greatest philanthropic endeavors for decades. Both couples have instilled the spirit of generosity in their daughters to continue to support charitable organizations and programs that help meet basic human needs such as food, clothing, shelter and education.

Community Savings Account/SDCF Partnership

In 2013, the Loren J. Ammann Foundation was established in partnership with the SDCF. The goal was to create a long-term funding source for charitable causes in the local area. With careful investment, the fund will continue to grow and enhance quality of life in the local area forever. This fund is one of 80 community savings accounts in partnership with SDCF. Since inception, the CSA has granted over $250,300 toward charitable causes in the local area. SDCF is a public non-profit organization established in 1987. SDCF, with offices in Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Aberdeen administers over 1,100 funds benefiting hundreds of charitable organizations annually. The Foundation distributed nearly $18 million in grants in 2021 which made a tremendous difference in communities statewide. This would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors.
