The Capital Area Pickleball Complex will bring valuable health, economic, and community benefits to central South Dakota.

Mendel Miller, CAPA President

The Capital Area Pickleball Association (CAPA) was established in 2006 in response to the growing popularity of pickleball in central South Dakota. Pickleball is a multi-generational sport for all ages and abilities and is the fastest growing sport in the country. The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) provided a $10,000 South Dakota Fund grant to the Capital Area Pickleball Association to provide partial support for the construction of a new pickleball court complex in Pierre.

“The Capital Area Pickleball Complex will bring valuable health, economic, and community benefits to central South Dakota”, declared Mendel Miller, CAPA President. “Grant support from the South Dakota Community Foundation helps make this possible. Thank you!”

This court complex is a public/private partnership with the City of Pierre building four courts and opening them to the public. The Pierre City Commission approved a contribution of the property just west of the current tennis courts in Griffin Park along with designating $50,000 of reserve funding towards engineering and project planning costs.

“We are proud to partner with the Capital Area Pickleball Association to bring this much needed asset to the region”, said Ginger Niemann, Senior Program Officer, SDCF. “Current demand far out surpassed court availability.”
