Keeping Healthcare Accessible

December 9, 2020 // South Dakota Fund Grants
Good Shepherd Clinic check presentation

The Good Shepherd Clinic was a recent recipient of a $9,000 South Dakota Fund grant award from the South Dakota Community Foundation. The Good Shepherd Clinic is a free walk-in clinic located in Spearfish, South Dakota. The clinic is open to financially qualified, uninsured patients ages 19 to 64. The clinic closed in March of 2020 due to COVID-19 and re-opened in August. Patients are served while maintaining the Centers for Disease Control’s recommended guidelines for proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and social distancing. Funds were used to cover operational expenses incurred for necessary PPE.

“We extend a huge thank you to the South Dakota Community Foundation for their South Dakota Fund grant support”, said Tammy Stewart, Board of Directors member, Good Shepherd Clinic. “In order for Good Shepherd Clinic to reopen in August during the COVID pandemic, we needed to purchase additional sanitizing supplies, outdoor parking signage and TRAC phones and minutes for conducting interviews. We are truly grateful for the support of the Foundation”.

“We are proud to play a small role in making sure the Good Shepherd Clinic’s services remain available to their patients”, said Ginger Niemann, SDCF Senior Program Officer. “During this pandemic, the healthcare they provide is more critical than ever”.

In response to the pandemic, SDCF’s Board of Directors established the Coronavirus Response Fund to directly support the needs of communities and nonprofits affected by COVID-19.
