Help for Students in Central South Dakota

August 26, 2021 // South Dakota Fund Grants

Expanding education in our community and making education accessible continues to be a major focus for Capital City Campus and we look forward to adding more offerings in the future.

Chris Maxwell, Executive Director, Capital City Campus

Capital City Campus is moving forward with an innovative program, in partnership with the Board of Regent’s Externally Funded Tuition Rate program, to help students in central South Dakota afford their higher education endeavors this fall. The implementation of this program will mark the start of a five-year plan to build long-term funding sources to consistently offer college credit courses, transferrable to all public universities and technical colleges, at $40 per credit hour plus standard student facility fees and expenses.

The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) provided a $20,000 South Dakota Fund grant to the Capital University Center Foundation, Inc. This grant will help support this project and students in the central South Dakota area.

“This grant from the South Dakota Community Foundation allows the Capital City Campus to continue offering $40 per credit hour post-secondary SDSU courses to students in our community”, stated Chris Maxwell, Executive Director of Capital City Campus. “These reduced rate classes provide opportunities for people who otherwise might not be able to access them due to location, financial barriers or other factors. Expanding education in our community and making education accessible continues to be a major focus for Capital City Campus and we look forward to adding more offerings in the future”.

“COVID-19 has impacted students’ and their parent’s financial ability to enroll in classes this coming academic year”, said Ginger Niemann, Senior Program Officer, SDCF. “We are pleased to support efforts to lower tuition rates and support local higher education”.
