Coeur Wharf Makes Substantial Pledge

September 30, 2022 // Community-based Grants

The Coeur Wharf Sustainable Prosperity Fund Board presented a $100,000 pledge toward the Handley Center Phase 2 Remodel Project Capital Campaign. This project, a collaborative effort with the Boys and Girls Club of Lead-Deadwood and the Northern Hills Alliance for Children, will provide new and upgraded facilities in Lead, SD.

The Handley is a community center serving the communities of Lead, Central City, Deadwood, and surrounding areas. This facility will support a partnership with the Northern Hills Alliance to provide more space for a daycare facility as well as being home to the Boys and Girls Club of Lead-Deadwood. Not unlike many of our state’s communities, childcare space and provision of those services is critical to keep local economies moving.

Established in 2012 and held within the South Dakota Community Foundation, the Wharf Fund is a million-dollar endowment fund that was designed to give back to Lead, South Dakota, and the surrounding communities. The fund was developed to help create lasting relationships and bring long-term social and economic benefits for community members.
